The start of baby Reid
So on Friday As mentioned I went to Harley Street Fertility Clinic www.hsfc.org.uk which was an all day adventure of being poked and prodded, one of the meds that was administered by a nurse
was a huge needle called Gonapeptyl.
Gonapeptyl injection is a long-acting injection that is adminstered either under the skin (subcutaneously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly). It is also used to treat men with Prostate Cancer
So on that Friday I had a huge big needle injected into my bum muscle. It wasn’t too pleasant. The reason for this was to stop my body from producing any natural hormones and for me to basically go into a mini menopausal state. Yay!!! Good times! Hot flushes, bloated belly and let’s not forget mood swings!!!
In IVF the role of these kind of meds is to suppress the body’s natural hormones that control the cycle and for the clinic to control my hormones correctly so they have control of timings for scans and transfer dates as this is a frozen cycle it’s slightly different. The main purpose for the medication prescribed for this week by Harley Street Fertility Clinic is to make sure my body stops making natural hormones and then I can have a bleed for the next step in the process.
I was sent home to take Provera tablets. Provera is a prescription medicine that contains the active substance medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is similar to the natural female hormone, progesterone. I was told to take this for 5 days and then to stop and wait for a natural bleed to come (period) before I am seen for a further scan and more IVF meds.
I also was sent home with Canesflor Probiotics for Vaginal Use. Canesflor is a convenient vaginal capsule that delivers probiotics, specifically the good bacteria lactobacilli, it is also really good for pH balancing lactic acid.
Probiotics are being recommended more frequently during IVF and pregnancy, and for good reason and I for one don’t think every little extra step of care can’t help?
I was told by the lovely Rachael ( a nurse at Harley Street Fertility Clinic) that I would probably be a few days late on my period due to the hormones. Once I had finished my dose of hormones (5 days worth) I just let my body do it’s thing. Nothing was happening, I went to visit Carys at the clinic who worked on me for both anxiety, Fertility and to try to kick start my period! I can’t believe I am writing this but I came on my period driving home from the clinic after treatment!!! My next blog will be about the benefits of add on treatments like Acupuncture so don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t forget to read that one.
